Purpose of the role: The Technician is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing a project’s execution from Inception to Close-Out, ensuring it is completed on time, within budget, and meets all defined goals and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
- TECHNICAL
• Plan and schedule technical tasks within the project work breakdown structure.
• Apply Civil engineering principles in the design, supervision, and review of projects.
• Collect, verify, and analyse technical information to support design development.
• Perform quantity calculations and prepare Bills of Quantities in accordance with SANS 1200.
• Assist in preparation of design drawings and documentation using Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and other relevant software.
• Support procurement processes by preparing technical specifications and evaluating supplier proposals.
• Ensure all designs and reports comply with relevant SANS, COTO, and municipal design standards.
• Maintain accurate records of design revisions, calculations, and correspondence.
• Participate in site inspections and collect as-built information for project close-out.
• Conduct quality checks to ensure deliverables meet client and regulatory requirements.
- MANAGEMENT
• Assist the Project Manager with resource planning (materials, personnel, and equipment).
• Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and team members to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Monitor project progress against schedule and report potential delays or risks.
• Ensure all documentation, drawings, and reports are filed and version-controlled.
Tender Administration
- Review the functionality,
- In liaison with the Unit Head, review the capacity and competency to meet the tender’s functionality.
3. REPORTING
• Prepare and submit weekly and monthly progress reports.
• Compile technical reports, design notes, and tender documentation.
• Update project registers, drawings, and data logs consistently.
4. COMPLIANCE WITH ISO
• Adhere to all company QMS procedures and maintain project documentation accordingly.
• Participate in internal and external audits and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure that all design and construction activities meet safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• Record changes in design and maintain traceability of project documentation
5. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Enhance skills and knowledge to stay aligned with industry trends and improve job performance.
- Technical Skills Upgradation: Attend training on new tools and technologies relevant to the scope of the role and aligned to the organisational operational goals.
- Industry Knowledge: Regular updates through courses and reading on market trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes.
Essential Requirements
Educational, Knowledge, and Experience
• Diploma in Civil Engineering
• Professional Registration with ECSA will be advantageous
• A minimum of 3 years of experience within the Built Environment
• Proficiency in Construction Contracts (GCC, JBCC, NEC, FIDC, etc.)
• Experience working with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Experience in MS Project
