Job purpose
An exciting position within our company is available to assist the Resident Engineer in supervising and managing construction activities on-site, ensuring compliance with design specifications, quality standards, safety regulations, and contractual obligations. This includes site supervision, quality control, contract administration support, stakeholder liaison, and reporting on project progress.
Key Results Areas:
- Site Supervision & Coordination: Assist the Resident Engineer in daily supervision, coordinating contractors and subcontractors.
- Quality & Compliance: Monitor construction works, inspect materials and workmanship, ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and safety standards.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain site records, prepare progress reports, inspection logs, and participate in site meetings.
- Technical Guidance & Problem-Solving: Support technical issue resolution on site
- Contract Administration: Assist with variation orders, claims, and interim payment verification.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
- Resource & Schedule Monitoring: Track milestones, report delays, and support planning of manpower, materials, and equipment
- Reports to: Resident Engineer (RE)
- Supervises: Technicians, Site Assistants and Trainees (as delegated)
Minimum requirements:
- BTech, BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering
- Driver’s License
- Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD (or similar software).
- Professional registration with ECSA will be an added advantage
- Minimum of 2 - 5 years’ experience essential
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and contract administration
Duties & responsibilities:
- Construction Supervision: Monitor day-to-day construction activities.
- Site Inspections & Quality Control: Conduct inspections and testing.
- Technical Support & Problem-Solving: Provide on-site guidance.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain records and submit progress reports.
- Contract Administration Support: Assist in processing variation orders, claims, and interim payments
- Health, Safety & Environment (HSE): Ensure compliance with HSE standards.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Communicate with contractors, consultants, and clients.
- Resource Planning & Monitoring: Track material usage, manpower, and equipment.
- Mentorship & Oversight: Guide junior staff and site assistants.
Planning and Supervision:
- Short-Term (Daily/Weekly): Daily site verification, resolve technical issues, prepare weekly reports.
- Medium-Term (Quarterly): Review progress, resource allocation, and schedule; mitigate risks or delays.
- Long-Term (Annual): Assist in annual planning of manpower, materials, and equipment; support strategic targets.
- Reporting: Weekly progress reports, monthly summaries, and ongoing site updates to management and stakeholders.

Working Conditions:
Location: On-site (Sterkspruit).
- Hours: Full-time; may require extended hours during critical phases.
- Travel: Occasional travel to project sites if multiple locations exist.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- High level of daily site supervision with timely resolution of technical issues.
- Compliance with quality standards, specifications, and timely issue of NCRs and close-outs
- Zero major safety incidents and consistent enforcement of HSE requirements.
- Accurate and on-time submission of weekly and monthly progress reports.
- Accurate IPC measurements with minimal discrepancies.
- Timely assessment of variation orders and claims
- Effective coordination and communication with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
- Reliable tracking of progress, resources, and risks with prompt reporting of delays
- Consistent mentorship and support of junior staff and site assistants
